Stupid 9 month old phone won’t keep damn cords in. I hate you Apple, I hate you iPhone, I hate you lightning cable. You all suck. I’m sitting here, like an idiot, physically holding a cable in trying to get 3000+ pictures off my phone before I take it in.

This is what I want to do to this piece of shit.

If you haven’t tried, take a toothpick and pluck out any fuzz/lint/dust in the Lightning port. My 6 was doing the same thing where it wouldn't keep a cord in and a ton of stuff was stuck in there.

Remember iPhones have a 1 year warranty. You might be able to take it to an Apple Store and get it swapped out. My iPhone is over 3 years old now and the Lightning port gives me issues sometimes but usually it's full of lint and cleaning it out gets working so I don't have to hold the cord just right. Maybe it's full of dust and the cable can't get fully seated on the detents in the connector?

That’s one thing I dig about having a microSD card. Phone no longer working? Cool, just let me grab my photos and music.

What’re you planning on replacing it with?

Have you tried cleaning the lightning connector with a toothpick? There might be a build up of dust and fibers causing this.

My iPotato had a ton of pocket lint packed in the port that was stopping the cable from seating. I scraped it out with a whittled down sliver of plastic and the cords worked properly again.

I had a Galaxy S2 which had this, then moved to a Nexus 5 32GB model and really missed having that SD slot. Got fed up with the really short battery life on the Nexus and upgraded to a S7 Edge a few months back. Now I have a 128GB microSD in there and it’s excellent.

MicroSD really should be normal thing for smartphones.

If you can wait a few weeks new android Nexus devices are coming out in October.

I had the same issue. I thought I was getting it clean using a toothpick. I tried again using a thinner toothpick and I was SHOCKED by the amount of lint that came out.

SHOCKED.

I’ve got an S7. Thinking of upgrading my 32 gig card that I’ve had for three phones up to something bigger and faster.

Hey shop-teacher!! Are you paying for this repair? If so, I can fix it for much much much less than what anyone would charge (because I wouldn’t charge anything)...and probably deliver better quality work.

Something that has always surprised me is the fragility of apple cables, they make them so thin and they always look dirty. Lightning is cool but they should have used USB type c as you can have more freedom with cables and accessories.

I’d recommend a Nexus 6P. However, with the new Pixel series coming out in less than 30 days, I can’t recommend a last year phone. I’d recommend a Galaxy S7...but recalls and all lol

It’s only nine months old, so I damn well better not be paying for it!

I’ll let you know if they do try to charge me though. Thanks Merc!

I had a Nexus 3(?) two phones ago, I was happy with it. Hopefully they’ll fix it, and I can keep using it while I figure out what to buy. Fortunately I was able to get the pictures off the phone.

I tried four different cables too. My wife was sure the cable would be the problem, but nope.

My iPhone didn't want to charge and you had to get the cord in just the right spot and go no where near it for it to work. Cleaned out the port on the phone and it works great now

Don’t get me started on macbook chargers. I’ve got mine wrapped in white electrical tape so to keep it from fully killing itself.

Agreed. A $20 Apple cable will look dingy in a week’s time, and break a few months later.

My $4 Type C cable for my Android has soldiered on without issue and still looks new.

Yeah I got some Sandisk extreme class something or other with red font on a black card that works really well. The red makes it extreme, I guess, because the others ones I was looking at at the time only had black and white font.

You must really have a dud phone. Mine is nine months old, too, and I’ve accidentally sent it flying while connected to the lightning cable. The cable has gotten snagged on my arm, while the phone has, in turn, slammed into the ground and I thought for sure the cable had gotten yanked out. Nope. Still connected. I’ve done that several times because I’m a klutz. Mine is a 6S, too.

It’s OK though, just wait for the iPhone 8 and they’ll be courageous enough to take away the charging port!

Sounds about right, and you’ll need to buy an adapter called an iPhone phone adapter to actually make the calls for a stupidly expensive price!

there is likely just pocket lint in the port. Very easy to clean out and the problem will go away.

Just had mine finally die after 6 1/2 years, replaced it with a $25 aftermarket charger on Amazon, works just as good and the connector looks like it shouldn’t have that same problem.
